Rite on

As I've previously mentioned I have spent a lot of my time watching Supernatural lately. It's such a great show, don't you think? If you have no idea what I'm talking about I suggest you go watch it somewhere or online or whatever the hell you do to watch tv shows.

In my mind the hot priest in back looked like my HEB crush
Anyway, I was watching some episode this morning and they were exercising a demon, it reminded me of the movie Julia and I went to see this weekend, The Rite.
Once again I found myself getting a good ol' dose of demonic story lines and proceed to nail up every cross, crucifix and rosary I own, around my bedroom that night to keep myself from being  possessed over night. I did the same thing the night I saw Paranormal Activity. But you know what? it worked-- fortifying your room like the Vatican (minus hot Swiss Guards, sadly) kept me demon-free all weekend! YAY!

You might being thinking to yourself "Wow Clarisa, you sure are crazy and take movies way too seriously" and you know what, you're probably right. I mean you are reading the rants of a person who has thrown up/ fainted during 4 movies (Hey sometimes you have those kind of vomit-in-your-hair bad days as my awesome friend Yiechia explained to me).

So yeah,  some of you, like my 2 Julia friends from here in EP and over in CS, know exactly what I'm talking about. They have witnessed my madness for themselves. I WILL NOT disclose which films caused this violent reaction but, lets just say 28 Days Later may have shit tons of blood in it yet that's not the type of film that does it for me. For some reason really dumb movies you would NEVER EVER guess do, and I'll leave it at that.

Yes, they really are this beautiful in person
So back to what I was saying, Julia and I went and saw the Rite this past weekend because it had a hot priest in it, and it took place in Italy. We reminisced about Roman adventures and how we wish we could go back and meet some well dressed Italian men or Swiss Guards.

Her and I discuss this quite regularly, actually. We used to wonder how it was for the Swiss Guards to live inside the Vatican, as Julia said,"maybe there's a cafeteria inside! and they all call it the Vat Caf!!" I don't really know but it sounds freakin awesome.

Anyway this post is much too long now, and I wouldn't want to read something this wordy myself so I will leave you with some pictures related and not related to this topic. --THE END.

Très Tron

Note: it is extremely hard to update a blog each day when you don't actually do anything all day but watch Supernatural and American Dad, but I'll try to be more exciting from now on.

So my amazing friend Julia and I were cramming our faces with sushi the other day (the great thing about sushi is you can devour 3 pounds of the stuff and feel great after) when we started to reminisce about how much we loved the new Tron movie.

OK sure it came out almost 2 months ago but wasn't it great? We also found ourselves discussing how at times movies inspire our mood/style.

Maybe the reason we are influenced by these flicks is because it's our way of getting closer to the characters and feeling like our lives are a bit more exciting? Or maybe we are just no match for the corporations that brainwash us into becoming consumer whores...either way here's some of the stuff we thought of that made of feel oh so Tron;

OK so first off I bought this Milani nail polish called Cyberspace, and I feel like my nails are made of glittering, high resolution, pixels.

Please excuse the dry fingers--El Paso is freakin dry, and no amount of lotion can solve this.

Then Julia divulged that she recently purchased some white eyeliner because it seemed very Tron. I couldn't agree more, plus I've been told white eyeliner is a girls best friend because it makes your face look fresh and your eyes seem bigger.

I mean check it out, even the dudes in that movie rock the white liner!

I on the other hand went for the super dark eyes (member like those siren girls who undress Sam--NICE), which is a total mess to take off and totally inappropriate when you're basically wearing it to sit around the house or eat lunch with your grandma at Golden Corral...

I also found out through various sources (my dear former roommate, Elizabeth, who pointed out the advert in a magazine I was reading, but apparently not reading)
that Hurley has a whole Tron clothing line, why I have not bought this totally legit dress, I have no idea.

Another item I'm pretty sure I purchased because it made me feel futuristic were these wedges. I think they look like Quorra's shoes, I have also just decided that my asymmetrical bangs will for now on be considered intentional and not just a result of me cutting my own bangs...

Did that really just happen?

I know a lot of people are die hard 80's fans and adore the Brat Pack, but I just finished watching the 1986 film Lucas and I keep asking myself if that really just happen. Is this really considered an 80's classic?

Sure watching a young Charlie Sheen is always great, so is finding out Jeremy Piven started balding at 21.

But seriously the movie actually ended with a slow clap and a freeze-frame of Lucas (Corey Haim) throwing his arms up in triumph, just like every single movie of that decade did...

Is it just me or are most 80's teen flicks overly glorified, after school specials? And what is with the obsession back then for pastel colored, southwest decor? It seems to contradict their love of neon spandex. Just my opinion is all.

Mundane Monday

Idol Worship in a Painted Form
It's hard to top an exciting weekend in New Mexico, and I didn't. I spent the weekend feeling sick, painting stuff, and I actually went to some home improvement showcase with my mom. So...yeah...kinda lame. But here's a picture of some clothes I was proud to have put together!

  *Gingham Shirt--Brooks Brothers
      *Black Blazer--Theory
        *Brown skirt--Banana Republic

Yup, I was all dressed up with nowhere to go...

So once the soul crushing disappointment of my surroundings sunk in I spent the next 2 days wearing the same thing (sometimes one can completely lose all inspiration)

That's right, for 2 days straight I wore the same pair of Levis and a Zara sweatshirt, granted, it is the GREATEST sweatshirt ever created by underpaid, sweatshop workers.

I wish I could say my life is as glamorous as I make it out to seem, believe it or not, the picture below is NOT real. I actually used MS Paint to create that cliche fantasy of Jimmy Dean.

But sadly, I don't actually attend galas with dead celebs. I'm actually sitting on my parents couch watching Adult Swim.

Urgent Update!

GLASVEGAS HAVE A NEW SONG OUT!!!!!!! And it doesn't disappoint--I can't understand any of the lyrics and it sounds epic--another Glasvegas triumph.

Holy cow, I had totally forgotten all about this band and given up hope on a new album when their drummer quit. How stupid of me, I mean tons of bands move on without their drummers. Seriously can you name any famous drummer aside from Keith Moon, Ringo Starr, or Tommy Lee?

I look forward to this band touring again!!!

Going Brogue

So I love washed out, low-fi, indie as much as the next hipster but I gotta say, while looking at the UK pop charts today I noticed that artists like Bruno Mars with killer style make me go weak at the knees. I mean check out this dude's saddle shoes and pompadour! In the words of GQ he looks "sharp as Satan".
I've been rockin the oxford flat for a good 2 years now, and I really, REALLY, hope they don't become obsolete any time soon. I mean they are freakin adorable and so comfortable!

My love for these shoes has grown to an obsession over the years. It's reached a point where I just see a pair and I start to water at the mouth, thinking I've got to have those....

I mean seriously, look at this! Why the hell do I have two pairs of navy two-tones? Is that ever really necessary?

Is it necessary that I also just ordered another pair of black oxfords with fringe?
Probably not. But check them out, they are AMAZING!!!
Madewell
Look if Alexa Chung endorses them, I gotta have them.

Another band I think has great style is White Lies. Sure their color pallet only consists of one color, but they always manage to dress to impress.

I'm so excited because they just came out with a new album!!!! Here's the first single if you want to check it out, the video is super strange, like a scene from ET. I don't really get it, but then again I'm not much of a deep thinker either.

I gotta mention this newish band called The Heartbreaks. I think everything about this is adorable from their music to their perfectly British outfits! I am a sucker for rolled up trousers exposing colorful socks and of course OXFORDS!!!

Finally I'm going to throw in a shout out to Mystery Jets. Normally this is a pretty scraggly lot of musicians who make BEAUTIFUL music. So when I first saw this video I was really impressed. They all look amazing...oh and the song's good too...

The girl in this video makes me want to put gobs of eyeshadow on. Maybe that's the trick to attracting a guy with long greased up hair?

Land of Enchantment

Dad the Adventurer

So I went to Albuquerque (probably the hardest city to spell EVER) and Santa Fe.

From El Paso this is like a 3 or 4 hour drive...CHILD'S PLAY next to the 10 hour drive I used to make to east Texas for school.

I got pretty carried away in the car taking photo after photo of mountains and everything in the vehicle which includes the parental units.

**Disclaimer: The photo to the left is deceivingly exciting in comparison to the reality of this weekend trip.

Yeah so as promised, here's some mountain picturesssssss!!!!!!!!!

Oh and I did a lot of reading....which never happens....I hate reading....I didn't even read the Harry Potter books *GASP*
But some how this book I'm With The Band about groupies back in the 60's and 70's kept me entertained for hours! I suppose it takes literature pertaining to sex with rock stars to keep my attention.

While taking notes on how to seduce Mick Jagger, we passed the new Hard Rock Casino and entered a wondrous land where EVERYTHING is made of adobe. Albuquerque and Santa Fe are a complete onslaught of Southwest furniture, Native American paraphernalia, and turquoise jewelry.

Sepia=Wild West Pic!!
When I wasn't taking pictures of every single building in the square or stuffing my face full of blue corn tortillas I was parading around in my best winter vacation clothes. You know just because you are going on a trip for 3 days doesn't mean you can't pack enough clothing options for a week...

So on a fashion note not really related to the "Land of Enchantment", my favorite color this past winter was definitely this strange, mustard, yellowish-color.

It kind looks like I skinned Oscar the Grouch, whatever, there have been stranger fashion trends (just check out an old episode of Sex and the City...*shudder*...dark times).

Anyway, it's not just my twisted mind that finds this color irresistible, check out J.Crew, anything this hue is already sold out over there (and they are always on top of it)!

This little beauty to the left is my new Rebecca Minkoff purse. It's fuckin Fabulous.

It has these amazing studs all over it that look like the head of a phillips screw, and even has a nice little tassle.

I like it because it's a really nice neutral color, a good size (not too big, not too small) and it's got the timeless quilted look like Channel.

Wait, wait, upon further review of their site they have definitely moved on from this color and into their spring collection. Damn fashion is like a never-ending rat race isn't it? Check it out if your like here

But thank goodness the newest must have is sailor stripes, which as I have stated in a previous post is a year-round staple for me. What can I say, I have a fondness for nautical things...and the 50's...I'm like some giant time-warp I guess.

Look I get it, I get it Cribs! I'm a totally shallow, bitch for only caring about clothes and pop culture, but I never said I WASN'T.

**In an unrelated story that I thought of because of the twins in this band, when I attended school I used to think I had this guy in a lot of my classes but only sometimes would he acknowledge me, I later found out this guy was actually twins and I was only friends with one apparently...

Snapshot

This past weekend I went on a little family trip to Albuquerque and Santa Fe, New Mexico. I took lots and lots of adobe house pictures. I still need to sort through all of them but I had some DIRE news to share (that may be exaggerating but aren't you glad I'm this earnest about a blog?!)

Firstly, today I was researching the latest fashion trends and found that Top Shop claims the look they love this week is one of my staples-stripes, camel, and red nail polish. have a look at the link and an awful snapshot of my exact outfit today!

Inside-Out at TopShop

wearing:

*black and white stiped shit with gold applique-Gap

*Soft as heaven cashmere sweater-Banana Republic

*Camel, cropped trousers-Zara

*Awkward pose-all me

Oh and here's a close up of my favorite earrings I'm wearing. I purchased these beauties at the Schoreditch Market in London

Final exiting news, found a great video on Pitchfork of the Queen of Rockabilly, Wanda Jackson doing a duet with the King of Alternative Guitar, Jack White, covering a Bob Dylan song. AMAZING. Can't believe Ms. Jackson still sings like a member of the Lolly Pop Guild!

I see London, I see France....

...and Paris smells of pee (yeah not as romantic as I thought it'd be)

So I was sitting here thinking about my life and what's become of it. This time last summer I was preparing for what was to be the greatest 3 months of my life when I had an internship/study abroad planned for the summer of 2010. And boy was it glorious...

First off London always has things to do, sure the food over there looks and tastes like vomit but everything else is FABULOUS! If we weren't shopping the stalls in Camden Town (my favorite place on earth) or being cool in the smoker section at the Roxy, my friends and I were attending the BEST concerts (Bonus: most shows there are free!).

I got to see my favorite goth, hipsters, The Horrors

And although there are countless others I got to enjoy like The Coral at Rough Trade record store or Kelis at the One Night in London show hosted by Perez Hilton, Love Box festival had to be one of the best investments I made. There I was able to see The Noisettes, The XX, Wild Beasts, Mark Ronson, and of course...EMPIRE OF THE SUN!!!

Only decent pic I could get of Empire of the Sun
Lead singer of The Noisettes
Wild Beasts, who are way better live

On top of that London is crawling with celebs, once on the tube my friend and I sat near Cillian Murphy on our way to see Inception!! AND, at Kings Cross station a group of us saw the filming of the final scene in the Harry Potter movies!
Yup, that's me awkwardly posing with the ACTUAL Hogwarts Express, none of this Universal replica shite
Of course on top of the amazing wealth of things to see and do while in London I was also able to visit all sorts of surrounding countries like Greece, Spain, Holland, Belgium, and France. I won't go on and on about all the awesome music and clothes because this post is getting to be a bit lengthy, I'm just saying I miss it. Now my life consists of hanging out with my family, my one friend left in my home town, and the mind-numbing hunt for a career.

I'll just leave you with this song that I have become pretty fond of and matches some of my feelings in regards to life right now HA!

Hey...I'm new...

The first post on a blog is almost always awkward. I mean, it's like "do I just introduce myself here?" but then you think "wait that's why I filled out all that personal information that nobody really needed to or wanted to know!"

So here goes...Hi everybody! I'm Clarisa, I just graduated from Texas A&M with a magical degree in Communications! I know, I know despite having this amazing degree I don't have a job yet! WOW! What a surprise!

Since nobody seems to need me for anything right now I'll just spend my time updating the cyber world on my discoveries and revelations regarding life. (mainly this will include music I'm currently grooving to or clothes I am lusting after, oh and the intermittent daydream/random thought)

Well that's all for now, I'll leave you with this great article I got a kick out of;
